To register for BandWorks Studio Workshops, please fill out the online form. We will contact you to confirm your registration status after receiving your information.
Registration Information
Session starts the week of Monday, April 16th. Workshops are for kids and adults ages 8 and up. In addition to our Rock Band Workshops in which we match students as described below, we are also now offering date-specific "Unplugged" and "Hip Hop" Workshops for kids in Oakland only.
Rock Band Workshops
At BandWorks we work hard to find the right band for every musician. We match musicians by a number of factors, including instrument, experience, scheduling, and musical interests. We also make sure that people who want to play in the same band get placed together. We believe this is one of the most important features of our program and one of the greatest benefits to our students. The more people who sign up for BandWorks, the more likely we will be able to find a good match for you. Please tell your friends, parent groups, schools and co-workers about BandWorks and this upcoming session. Evaluation of experience level is determined by information received on the registration form and/or phone interview. There are no auditions. Every effort is made to place each musician in a group that is musically appropriate, with other musicians who have comparable experience. *(see note below)
We thoughtfully consider song, band and genre suggestions, and make every effort to choose songs that suit the tastes and abilities of the members in each band.. Be sure to include your suggestions on your registration form.
BandWorks Unplugged & Hip Hop 8 Week Workshops for Kids – Oakland Only
Students will meet for 8 weeks and perform at the concert (dates below). Cost is the same as regular workshops.
Unplugged for Beginners: Learn basic chords, rhythm patterns, song structure and how to work
together to create a unique band sound.
Meets: Thursdays, April 19-June 7, 4:15-6:15
Unplugged: For kids with some experience, students will explore a wide range of acoustic sound
and music, while gaining a deeper understanding of how to create arrangements with guitars,
keyboards, bass and other acoustically oriented instruments. Students will also be strongly
encouraged to create collaborative originals.
Meets: Thursdays, April 19-June 7, 6:15-8:15
Hip Hop Ensemble– Form a fresh hip hop group with rapping, beats and live instrumentation.
In addition to doing some covers, students will write their own raps and perform them to
the
looped beats and music they’ve created
within their group. Students should have at least 1
year musical &/or performance experience.

Refunds and Discounts
There are no refunds after the second class of a session or for missed classes. You will be fully refunded if we are unable to place you in a band.
Families with two or more members participating in any classes during the same session will receive a $25 discount per person. This may not be combined with any other coupons or discounts except the Early Registration Discount.

*In our effort to offer a very high quality experience, we balance many different factors in placing students in bands, including: scheduling, age, musical experience, instrumentation, stylistic preferences and other factors. Occasionally we will not have an appropriate fit for a musician, even if he or she registered early. The more days and times you list on your registration form as available, the more likely we will be able to find the right band for you. In the event that we are unable to place you in a band, we will refund your entire registration fee. We do our best to offer the best musical experience possible for all musicians in BandWorks, and work very hard to ensure that your experience is a positive one. If we are unable to place you in a band this session, please try again next time!
